“This beginner crochet kids belted poncho pattern is so stylish and easy to make. This pattern requires only two stitches to complete and works great with baby yarn or any soft yarn. You can adjust the sizing just by adding or removing rows. It is a very forgiving and flexible pattern. You might also make this with a chunky yarn which would increase the warmth and decrease the amount of yarn and time needed. Either way, this will be a stylish addition to any little girl’s wardrobe!”

Crochet Belted Poncho for Kids Pattern
ch the width of the poncho size you want as long – make any multiple of 7 and add 4 for the total stitch count – then add 4 ch and turn
(for my 9 year old daughter, this was 28 inches wide)
Row 1 – Start in the 5th chain from hook, 1 tc in each chain to end, you should end with 4 tc in a row – chain 4, turn
Row 2 – Skip first stitch and then 1 tc into next 3 stitches. Chain 3, skip 3 stitches, 4 tc into next four stitches. Repeat across in a pattern of 4 tc, then 3 chain/skipped stitches. This creates a rectangle. At end of row, chain 4 and turn.
Repeat rows 1 & 2 until your work is long enough to cover from the neck/shoulder down to where you want it to hang. Â Mine measured 19 inches.
Next row, only work half the row – in the middle, you will end with 2 tc, then ch 4 and turn. So, now you are just working half the front. Repeat rows 2 and 3 until you reach the same length as the back.
Go back up to the other half and insert your yarn and work the other half down. This leaves a split in the front middle.
Belt Pattern
Make as long as you need – mine measures 60 inches.
Ch 5, insert hook 1st ch from hook, sc in each stitch across (4 stitches), ch 1, turn and repeat until you reach the desired length.
Weave belt through holes in poncho and tie in front.
